Food Beer

't Spinnekopke

A tremendously cozy little restaurant with a really Brussels-oriented menu. Many dishes include beer-based sauces and preparations with Lambic-style beers. Notice that their menu is in 't Brussels, a Flemish/French hybrid dialect.

Social Beer

Bonnefooi

Another super-late-night bar. This one attracts the underground creatives and miscreants of Brussels. A slightly bohemian atmosphere, and often alive and kicking with live music or DJs. Has La Chouffe on tap, a definite hit.

Beer

Moeder Lambic

A beautiful, clean bar with tens of beers on draft. It specializes in the Lambic style of beer, but has an amazing selection of artisanal beers.

Every now and then they invite in a guest brewer to offer their wares, so you never quite know what you'll get!

Food

Chez Catherine

This little shop is a gourmet fantasy come true. I can only venture a guess at the age of the little old ladies behind the counter, but what I do know is they are the most dedicated, old-school cheese experts I have ever met. Everything in their store is rock-bottom price, they take their time to let you sample anything before buying it, and if you ask for advice they will rock your world.

Beer Food

Goudblommeke in Papier

This is one of the oldest bars in Brussels, and thrives on a huge legacy of surrealist artists (like Magritte) that used to frequent the place. It has a warm and busy interior, darling staff, loads of cultural artefacts and lambic beer on tap. They even do traditional meals! What more could you ask for.

Food

Flagey frites

So you've come to Brussels and you want to try the frites? Careful! Fast-food chains have colonized the city center and have pushed out the long-held tradition of the Belgian frites. However, on this little island of tranquility outside the city center you'll find probably the best frites you'll ever eat, fried according to the legendary Belgian techniques.

It's a busride away, but if you can make the time for it we promise you won't regret it.

On a spring day you can eat your frites by the peaceful Flagey lakes.
